The goal in each level is to collect diamonds and reach the exit door by digging through dirt and avoiding falling rocks and hostile monsters. The player controls the character using the cursor movement keys or a joystick. The level is filled with different objects, some of which are indestructible (rocks), some which can be pushed (diamonds) and others that cannot be manipulated at all (indestructible walls, slippery walls). Some of the items can rest on other rocks, walls or even other diamonds, but they will fall down once the player moves into them.

Rocks'n'Diamonds has a built-in level editor, allowing the user to create and test his own levels. The program also includes 4 sets of levels that are converted from the games Emerald Mine, Boulderdash (C 64), Supaplex and Sokoban.

The game runs at a stable 60 frames per second. The graphics are very colorful and the levels are challenging. It is possible to install additional level sets for the game by copying them into ux0:/data/rocksndiamonds/levels on Vita or /switch/mirrormagic/levels on Switch.
